Unit 6: Commission - Agebook Narrative Development


Details:

Topic – The Telomere Theory of Aging
Platform – Social Networking – Facebook
Demographic – Teens (12-17)

Premise:


A fun app hosted on a social networking site has gone rogue and is aging innocent profiles.

Log Line:

Facebook regular David Vandepeer is scouring his public wall when he notices a link from a close friend to a site promising the riches of immortality. David clicks the link and reads into the science, he then watches a small CG video.

Having watched the video David notices an app has automatically installed on his Facebook profile, in trying to remove the app David’s profile ages shredding his profiles digital telomeres. With the telomeres gone the app removes itself leaving David’s profile old and dishevelled, the app then uses David’s profile to post itself on the public wall once again for some other bystander to click the link.

Three Act Structure 

ACT 1:

David notices a link from a friend on his wall, he visits the Agebook site and watches a video which installs a rogue Agebook app on his Facebook profile, David decides to remove it.

ACT 2:

David clicks the cross to remove the app but instead it breaks down the telomere on the app and ages David’s profile. David angrily clicks the cross numerous times destroying his profiles telomeres, which removes all of his friends and degrades his profile indefinitely.

ACT 3:

With David now theoretically 100 years of age, the app is now in control of David’s profile and it posts itself using David’s public wall to his 1 remaining friend. The Agebook curse will now spread further, or will it?

Step Outline 

INT. DAVID’S COMPUTER – DAVID’S PUBLIC FACEBOOK WALL - NIGHT 

David signs into his face book profile and checks his wall, he notices a post from a friend he hadn’t heard anything from for a while. Intrigued from his friend’s endorsement David clicks the link to the aptly named “Agebook” and minimizes his Facebook Wall.

INT. DAVID’S COMPUTER – THE AGEBOOK SITE - NIGHT 

David scrolls down the page and reads some theories around aging and their pros and cons; uninterested David finds solace in the mention of CG videos at the top of the site promising an experience unlike any other... David clicks play on the telomere video - calamity ensues.

INT. DAVID’S COMPUTER – THE DNA/TELOMERE VIDEO - NIGHT 

The telomere video illustrates an all blue DNA strand and the gradual decay of its protective tips the video then leaks into David’s Facebook page.

INT. DAVID’S COMPUTER – DAVID’S FACEBOOK PROFILE - NIGHT 

David is impressed by the effects of the video, especially at how the Agebook site knew his profile page. However to David’s annoyance he notices an Agebook bar has installed itself replacing his timeline bar. David clicks a cross next to the bar to uninstall it, a crack appears on the Agebook telomere reading and David’s profile degrades slightly.

INT. DAVID’S COMPUTER – DAVID’S PUBLIC FACEBOOK WALL - NIGHT 

Having forgotten the link David returns to his public Facebook wall to find his friend’s link to the Agebook site, his friend no longer has a profile on the site.

INT. DAVID’S COMPUTER – PAGE NOT FOUND - NIGHT 

David types in what he thinks was Agebook.com in his browser only to find the site does not exist.

INT. DAVID’S COMPUTER – DAVID’S FACEBOOK PROFILE - NIGHT

David returns to his Facebook profile and begins trying every method imaginable to remove the annoying Agebook app. In frustration David rapidly clicks the cross next to the Agebook App which quickly breaks down his profiles telomeres and in turn his Facebook profile. David’s profile age begins to rise significantly and his friends begin to shed from his list.

INT. DAVID’S COMPUTER – DAVID’S FULLY AGED PROFILE - NIGHT 

David’s profile is now 100 years of age (and looking it), with no further action by David the app removes itself.

INT. DAVID’S COMPUTER – DAVID’S PUBLIC FACEBOOK WALL - NIGHT

The app then uses David’s profile to post itself to his 1 remaining friend. David tries to stop it but has lost power over his own profile. The scene ends with David posting as his friend did before him (at the beginning).

INT. DAVID’S FRIEND – DAVID’S POST TO AGEBOOK - NIGHT

David’s one remaining friend clicks the link and the Agebook curse continues.
